God- The Vending Machine?

Today the sermon at church was amazing.

It was about something we all tend to do in our relationship with God- treat him like a vending machine.

A vending machine?! How so? I asked the same question. (Btw I love analogies like this. It helps me remember things easier!!!)

He was saying how faithful and reliable the vending machines usually are. You put your money in, and out comes what you want. However, there are those moments when you out your money in, and the thing you want gets stuck...or doesn't come out. What do we do? We kick it, shake it, get upset, say a few choice words.

Well, sometimes that's how we treat God. We put in our money (tithe, service, prayers) and expect God to give us what we want. When it doesn't work out that way, we kick, moan, curse at him.

He also mentioned Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and their faith. They were threatened to be thrown into a fire if they didn't worship other Gods.

Daniel 3:16-18 says this:

16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, “Your threat means nothing to us. If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us from your roaring furnace and anything else you might cook up, O king. But even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference, O king. We still wouldn’t serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”

They told the king that God would rescue them from the furnace, BUT EVEN IF HE DIDN'T, they wouldn't worship other Gods anyway.

Wow. Such faith they had even though they weren't sure of their fate. But they had faith.

God doesn't tell us that we aren't going to face trails, but he did promise he will help us through them.

Praise The Lord for that!

Happy Sunday.
