Well, I did it. I ran 3 miles (3.3 if we are being exact!)
If you know me, you know that this was a feat! When I started...I could BARLEY run 1 lap. I was huffing and puffing, couldn't carry on a conversation, I could only focus on making those feet move. Below are somethings that helped me. The way I'm making a big deal about this may seem silly to some, but for me...its kinda big. An accomplishment.
So here's some tips for yall.
1. Start small. Try running just one lap. If you need a break, take it! I did a lot of run/walk at the beginning.
2. Set goals. I would say, "Okay, run HALF a lap today" or "Okay, 2 laps in a row." Its crazy to think my last goal was run 3 miles (and even crazier to think 3 miles is NOTHING to some people!!!!)
3. Push through the pain (no, we are NOT talking labor..just running ha) These past couple times running, I just kept reminding myself to push through. At the beginning, if I got a side cramp, I would just walk. Now, if I get a side cramp..I push through and it goes away! Same with my legs feeling like they are going to fall off (They never have...yet) :)
4. Take music along! This is the break through for me. I would run with Kristin and we would talk...but during those silent moments..I would have nothing to focus on except running. I would say, "Okay I HAVE to stop." Now, if we aren't talking, I sing along in my head...and sometimes out loud (sorry neighbors...)
5. Don't give up. Seriously though. I thought only CRAZY people enjoyed running. I had once said I'd rather do ANYTHING than go running. Now, I kinda enjoy it. Me. Music. Outside. Its a nice place to be.
6. Find a time that works for you! I had decided that when I get home from work and before dinner was the time that get bored and EAT. So, that is the time I picked to run! Its not the most convenient time, especially on those hot days...but it works for me!
