My handsome little guy is here!! On December 7th, 2010 at 3:14pm, Jake Ryan entered the world!!! He weighed 6lbs 13oz and was 20 inches long! He has the longest fingers and big feet...which I lov to kiss constantly ;)
I went to the hospital at 12:00pm on the 7th, did the check in..was hooked up to the IV, wore the beautiful scrub hat thing and waited for the Dr. to come.

Of course he was a little late..so at 2:35ish he came and I was wheeled into the OR. The anesthesiologist had to do my spinal 2 times because she put it in the wrong spot the first time. Something you never want to hear is "I thought that felt like that right spot." Ouch. Thanks a lot. Luckily I survived..my lower body went numb..and they started cutting me open. Joel was the cutest thing ever...looking at me, then looking at them cutting, then looking back at me. He was nervous, more that me I think. I thought it was funny that the doctors were talking about golf as they were cutting me, like it was no big deal. I guess that means they were comfortable and confident :) I felt TONS of pressure as they were pushing on my belly to get him out! Joel told me they were pushing really hard. The Dr. said Jake was not even engaged or dropped at all, which made it harder to get him out. When I heard his little cry, I was so anxious to see him!!
The first thing I said was "He is so cute..and so WHITE...and red lips!" I couldn't believe how pale he was!! Hes got a nice tan color now.

After he was out and cleaned up, Jake and Joel were off to the nursery while I was sown up. After that, I was headed to the recovery room (which was an experience in itself). I reallllllllllly wanted to go to my room, see my little guy and family...but I couldn't until I could move my toes, legs and lift my hips. The nurse said "Can you move your toes..?" I said "Yes" and as I looked down..my toes did not move. Sad day. I was told I would be in the receovery room for 2 hours and try and get some sleep. Well, the man next to me had knee surgery and was clearly in pain because he was whisper "someone help me." Kinda freaky. On the other side of me was a man who had back surgery and was moaning. Try and get some sleep huh? Doubt it.
Those 2 hours seemed like FOREVER...but at 7:00pm, I was taken to my room. As my friends and family entered, I was overflowed with comments like "He is so cute" or "He has long fingers and toes"...which was nice to hear..but I wanted to see for myself. I only saw him for those short 5 minutes in the OR! It just figured that the nurse shift changed at 7:30pm...so I still haven't seen my baby boy. At 8:00pm I finally met my little man. I cried, of course. The next few nights in the hospital were fun, frusterating, and full of new experiences. Let me just say that I have to give MAJOR props to L&D nurses...they do and see SO MUCH for the patients.

I got discharged on Friday aftenoon and couldn't wait to come home. I was still in pain, but had pain killers all ready to go! :) My feet were and still are SUPER swollen. The Dr. said its from the Spinal and could last for 4-6 weeks! I tried putting my UGGS on yesterday...but no luck. Looks like I'm stick to flip flops for a while.
Jake is really a GREAT baby (I know i know, all moms say that. I used to roll my eyes when I saw mothers put this saying "Yeah right"..now here I am..lol) He only cries when he is hungry or has a dirty diaper. He is so content and happy (Even though all his pictures looks like he has a frown..ha!)
I now know what it means when people say "When he comes you won't even know how you lived without him." He is so precious and perfect. Its amazing that this little guy came for us. God is good, that is for sure. I look at his little fingers..and lips and praise God for this new creation he has given us. I am so blessed :)Anyway, thats my story. From here on out expect Jake updates and pictures :)

I love this post-- yay for all of the cute pictures. I can't wait to see more.
Get Joel to grab you some frozen peas to put on your feet while you are nursing-- and keep those puppies propped up! Mine were swollen for about 3 weeks from all of the IV fluid.
Welcome to mommyhood, Jen!
