I am worthy!

Last night in Bible Study, we read a great chapter in our "Facing the Giants" book by Max Lucado.

We studied 1 Samuel 16:13 which talks about God sending Samuel to anoint a new King, when there was already an "unofficial" King in Israel, Saul.

God told Samuel to meet with Jesse and he will tell him more later. When he got Bethleham, he gathered with Jesse and his sons, to make a sacrifice to the Lord. Samuel started looking at Jesse's 7 sons and was deciding which one HE THOUGHT would be right to be the new King. He looks at the oldest one (Eliab) and thought he would be perfect b/c he was tall and handsome. God says no, "
Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Samuel then calls the other 6 of Jesse's sons who were present, but God did not chose any of them either. Samuel asked Jesse if all of his sons were here...Jesse said Nope (Jesse had 8 sons!), that he still had the youngest son, David, but he was a shephard and was with the field. Samuel told Jesse that he wanted to see David.

Now, In my study book, Max mentions that David was known as the "haqqaton",which means- the youngest son, the last in the bunch, the littlest. He was always the last to be included in family things, in fact, he wasn't even invited to meet with Samuel that day.

As it turns out, God to picked David to be King! Who would have though that this lowly, haqqaton, Shepard would be king!? Why we might ask?? God saw the things that no one else could see. Davids heart. David was the one who truly sought after God.

"In the end, that's all God wanted or needed...wants or needs. Others measure your waist size or wallet. Not God. He examines hearts. When he finds one set on him, he calls it and claims in." Max Lucado pg. 18)

I was seriously amazed last night. Of course I've read this chapter before, but reading it again made me realized that God can use little old me, or little old you!

Look at this:
God used Moses even though he ran from Justice. God used Jonah even though he ran from God. God used Samson, even though he cheated. God used Sarah, even though she ran out of hope.

What are you running from? There is hope, people. God can STILL use you in whatever condition you are in.

Lets all strive to be like David today.
